Baltimore was infamous for its overall discrimination; in 1910 it became the first American city to segregate each residential block by race. It was a border city but more segregated than many cities in the Deep South. Presenter: Antero Pietila. Antero Pietila, the author of Not in My Neighborhood: How Bigotry Shaped a Great American City, worked for 35 years at the Baltimore Sun covering nearly everything from cops to City Hall. He retired in 2004 after serving on the editorial board for 13 years.
