Hours: Tue – Fri 10:00 – 6:00 & Sat. by appointment. Exhibition Concept for Dark Matters Black is the result of objects that do not emit or reflect light in any part of the visible spectrum. For black to exist, an object must absorb all such frequencies of light. Even before Kasimir Malevich’s Black Square of 1915, artists have engaged in a dialogue with Black. Additionally, the history of printmaking is ripe with countless examples of artists' use of black. The contemporary artists in this exhibition - of myriad background, age, and exhibition record-- made their works according to very different aesthetic and conceptual premises, using varied media, and yet all fall captive to the rich intensity held in black. All of the works shown in the group exhibition "Dark Matters" employ the use of black or darkness, shining a bright light on the importance and complexity of Black. Artists : TBA (will include Sondheim Prize Applicants) About Goya Contemporary Goya Contemporary promotes the art and culture of our time by presenting new works and ideas through curatorial practice, texts and catalogues, print publishing, artist representation, and by encouraging artistic collection, building private & public collections, assisting in acquisitions and de-acquisitions, and facilitating auction activity via the main auction houses.
